Created during the January 2021 COVID‑19 lockdown using only an iPhone, this series of twelve photographs captures split pomegranates bleeding across a white tablecloth. The images reflect on rupture, renewal, and the possibility of life after confinement.
The pomegranate, believed to have originated in the region stretching from northeastern Turkey to Afghanistan, carries deep symbolic weight. Across cultures it represents fertility, beauty, and eternal life; in the Old Testament, it appears as a metaphor for abundance in the promised land.
To emphasize the tension between the organic and the digital, the photographs incorporate intentional glitches—subtle distortions that highlight the technological nature of contemporary image‑making while echoing the softness and fluidity of watercolor painting.
Each photograph includes subtle, intentional glitches—digital interruptions that highlight contemporary image‑making while echoing the softness and fluidity of watercolor.
The series was exhibited at Photo Schweiz, 2–11 July 2021.
