Red roses have long served as symbols of human emotion: love, longing, passion. Even their number carries meaning: two for union, three for devotion, five for affection, seven for belonging.
But withered roses tell another story. They are often seen as symbols of old love—something that has passed, faded, or ended. For me, withered roses are roses at their most beautiful, perhaps because they exist in their final, most fragile state.
This series captures that moment of transformation, the shift from vitality to fragility, from bloom to memory. The work received Honorable Mention at both the Moscow Foto Awards and the Paris Photo Prize in 2015, and was later exhibited at the Tokyo International Art Fair in May 2016.
